What information do I need to make a booking?

We need to know how many beds or the type of room you require, the dates of your arrival and departure, the name and contact details of the person who is making the booking. You will also need a working credit card to pay the non-refundable deposit of the first night and confirm your booking.

My plans are fluid, can I make a provisional booking?

When you contact us we can give you an indication of availability and make your reservation.  However, we will not make provisional bookings.

Is there a minimum stay?

There is a minimum stay of 2 nights for reservations that include a Friday or a Saturday night. For all other days of the week, we accept booking for one night – but there is so much to do in Brighton you are sure to need longer.

How far in advance can I book?

We accept bookings many months in advance. If the time you want to stay is not showing through the booking button it means that we have not put those dates on sale yet – but drop us an email and we can put you top of the list when we open the dates for reservations.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

We will need a non-refundable deposit equal to the first night of your booking.  We will charge this to the credit/debit card you used to book.

If you send a request via email please do not include your credit card details as it might not be secure.  Our booking system uses high-security algorithms to keep your card information secure.

If you choose to book via an on-line travel agent like Booking.com and Hostelworld.com different terms apply.

I love Baggies and I want to stay forever, how long can I book for?

You can initially book for a maximum of 14 nights. Whilst we have people who stay for longer, we want to ensure that Baggies is the right place for you and vice versa. Once you are here, we can discuss longer term stays.

Do you accept group bookings?

We have rooms that can be booked to be private to you and your friends. Baggies is not ideally suited to large parties. We are a relatively small hostel, and groups that are too large upset the dynamic for everyone else. Therefore the maximum number of guests on one booking is 8. Please contact us if you are making a group booking.

Do you accommodate Hen and Stag parties?

We do not accept Hen or Stag parties, regardless of how well behaved you intend to be, only backpackers. If we suspect you are a Hen or Stag party, we reserve the right to cancel your booking, or not allow you to stay at the hostel when you arrive. Any deposit paid will also be forfeit.

What is your policy for guests who are under 18?

If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult and stay in a private room. No one under the age of 18 can share a dormitory with anyone who is not part of their group.

I want to book dorm beds, but also to be in the same room as my friends, can you guarantee this?

When you book, please let us know how many people are traveling in your group, and their sexes. We will try to keep you all together in one room, or a combination of rooms if your group is too big.  At really busy times, especially on weekends, you may have to be in different rooms.  This is only possible for direct bookings, so make sure to book direct rather than through booking.com or hostelworld if you want to stay together.

Will I have the same bed for the duration of my stay?

We will try to ensure that you do not have to move beds during your stay at Baggies, but at busy times, we may ask you to move beds or rooms for those who have made a prior booking.

Do you have any facilities for disabled people?

Baggies is located in an old, historic listed building, with many stairs. Sadly this can make it difficult to navigate for those with a physical disability that limits mobility. But get in touch and discuss your needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Arrivals and Check outs

What time is check in and check out?

Check in is from 2 pm until 9 pm. Check out is until 11am . You are welcome to use the common areas for longer, but you must vacate your bed and return your linen and key by 11 am.  Failure to do so might lead to us assuming you want to stay for another night and charging you for it.

I’m arriving really late/ really early. Will I still be able to check in?

Our reception is open from 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week.  If you need to arrive, or check-out, outside of these hours, please discuss and agree it with us in advance.

If you are arriving after reception closes, we may request full payment in advance when you make your booking.

So that everyone gets some sleep in shared rooms, the latest check-in is midnight.

What do I need to bring when I check in?

Photo identification is required on check-in for everyone in your group. Suitable identification includes passport, photo driving licence or national identity card.

You will also need a £10 per key deposit in cash. This deposit will be returned to you when you hand in your key during check-out.

How can I pay?

On arrival you will be asked to pay for the duration of your stay.

We accept most major credit and debit cards. We do not accept American Express credit cards.

You can pay via direct bank transfer and via PayPal.

Our Paypal account is stay@baggiesbackpackers.com

Our bank account details are:

Stay Brighton Ltd

Lloyds TSB

Sort code: 308441

Account: 40467860

Please include the name of the lead guest and check-in date as your reference.

You can also pay in cash when you arrive.

Is there a curfew?

On arrival you will be given a key that will give you 24-hour access to the building in return for a deposit of £10. The deposit is only payable in cash.

The deposit will be refunded when you give us your key back when you leave. We reserve the right to retain the deposit if you have caused any damage during your stay.

Cancellation Process

My plans have changed, how much notice do I need to give?

Please give as much notice as possible if you want to cancel or amend a booking.  However, if we have not heard from you to cancel within 7 days of check-in time we will assume you are coming (Yay!)

If you do not show up for the first night of your stay, and we have not had confirmation in writing that you wished to cancel, we will charge the full amount of your booking.  We will also cancel the subsequent nights.  So if you intended to arrive later than the original check-in date please let us know in good time.

If you booked using an on-line travel agent, such as Hostelworld or booking.com, different terms apply than if you book directly with Baggies. All bookings through Booking.com are non-refundable in total, and we reserve the right to charge you for the full amount any time after you book. The deposit paid to Hostelworld is paid to them, and can only be recovered through them. If you do not arrive, or cancel outside of the stated cancellation period, we will charge the whole of your first night’s stay irrespective of the deposit you paid.

Once you have arrived no refunds are payable.

I paid a deposit for the bed/room, will I get that back?

Room/bed deposits are non-refundable.  But when you return your key you will get your key deposit back.

Is bed linen provided?

Yes. We provide bed linen. All beds have a mattress liner, pillow and duvet. You will be provided with clean bedding on arrival. Please return this to reception when you leave.

Is breakfast provided?

No, but you can bring your own food and use our well-equipped kitchen. Otherwise we can advise you where to get the best breakfasts in Brighton. You have help yourself to unlimited tea and coffee all day.

Can we buy food and meals at the hostel?

No. Baggies is a self catering hostel – we have a well equipped kitchen that you can use for the duration of your stay. There are several supermarkets within close walking distance, as well as some great pubs and restaurants.

Do I have to share a room?

You don’t have to share a room if you don’t want to. But dormitories are a great way of meeting other people when you are travelling alone – and a cost effective way to travel too. Some of our rooms can be booked as private to you and your friends. Our smallest private room sleeps 2 in a double bed. Let us know when you book what you need.

Do you have en-suite facilities?

No. None of our rooms have en-suite facilities. But there are lots of showers, with plentiful hot water, 24 hours a day.

What is included in the price of my bed?

The price of your bed includes bed linen, free tea and coffee, access to all of the common areas, and free high speed WiFi access. The friends you make for life are also complimentary.

Can I store luggage at the hostel for a short time after I check out?

Yes. We will store your bags whilst you continue to enjoy the hostel. We just ask that you vacate your bed by 11am.

We will store bags for a maximum of 1 day after you check out.  We sometimes make exceptions for people who are coming back, and have a confirmed, paid for the reservation.

Do you provide towels?

If you would like to rent a towel, you can do so at the hostel reception. The cost is £2 per towel for the duration of your stay.

Is parking available at the hostel?

In Brighton there is a loading bay outside the hostel for you to drop off your things. On the street there is limited parking (and expensive – £6.50 for 2 hours) although it is free to park between the hours of 8pm and 9am.

We know places in Brighton where you can park more cheaply, or for free if you do not mind a bit of a walk. Ask us when you arrive.

Can I bring alcohol into the hostel?

Yes. You can bring back your own food and drink. You can make use of our kitchen, dining area and music room. No food or drink should be consumed in the bedrooms. If we discover food or drink in the bedrooms we will remove it to the kitchen for everyone to enjoy.  Remember to recycle your empties.

Are there any special events?

We organise regular events to help you to make friends.

We have ‘Baggies Family Dinner’ where someone volunteers to cook something from their home country (or their special dish) for everyone else. Those who want to take part contribute a small amount towards the cost of the ingredients and then share in the washing up afterwards.

We also have poker nights, beer pong, computer games nights, hula-hoop competitions, film nights, yoga on the beach in the morning, and ad hoc English classes.

How can I amuse myself?

We have chill-out lounge where you can kick back with a book, or catch up with the soap operas on TV. We have a little library at each location so you can borrow one of our books if you are bored with your own.

Our music room is a popular place to relax and make friends. We have a few guitars and other instruments, so be sure to bring your own to entertain us. All of our hostels also have Sonos systems that you can attach to wirelessly so you can play your own tunes.

We have lots of information about what is going on in Brighton and further afield. We can let you know the best places to go to see the sights or to party.
