Brighton has long been the go-to city for vegetarian and vegan eateries, where a mooch around the Laines is somewhat heavenly for the ethically-minded foodie. Whether it’s a dairy free croissant, a cruelty-free curry or you just want a splash of rice milk in your coffee, you will undoubtedly find it with ease on Brighton’s bustling streets.
A few new places and new vegan menus have popped up recently around the city, joining some long-standing established cafes and restaurants to fly the vegan/veggie flag high and proud. Of course, we thought it was only best that we went out to try them out for you! Below are 3 of our favourites, all of which are conveniently within walking distance of Baggies Backpackers.
Beelzebab @ The Hope and Ruin, Queens Road Facebook
From the crazily up-cycled interior of the Hope and Ruin, Beelzebab serves up delicious seitan kebabs from it’s curious kitchen housed in a repurposed caravan! Need I say more? Served in your choice of brown or white pitta bread with heaps of salad and a vegan tzatsiki. Less greasy, arguably more tasty and certainly healthier than your usual kebab shop fare! When teamed with one of their delicious loaded fries baskets, you will struggle to finish the lot! They also serve a range of hotdogs, newly added specials and vegan desserts from Boho Gelato, so we think they are on to a winner! It’s also a lively music venue too! Take an omnivore friend- we challenge them not to enjoy it!
Purezza, St James Street. Facebook
There are a few vegan pizza offerings in Brighton now, but we have to say that this is our new favourite! The owner told us that he wanted to set up a place serving food that he would want to eat. If this is the case then the man has great taste! This really shows in the care and love that is put into these wonderfully flavoursome pizzas! There are options with or without vegan cheese and we tried a pizza with a butternut squash base as well as an amazing garlic bread and a couple of vegan beers. They are now also teamed up with Deliveroo so now you can order one straight to your door!
The Brighton Beer Dispensary Facebook
Whilst this isn’t a strictly vegan venue, they have gone to great lengths to ensure that vegans can have a version of every item on the menu. The burgers are outstanding, fully loaded up and packed with flavour. The beetroot ‘bacon’ that tops some of the burgers is really quite an achievement! Our favourite is the pulled ‘shrooms burger- packed with BBQ sauce and deliciously messy! Chips served in pint glasses and vegan versions of their bar snacks top off a great experience in a cosy pub atmosphere. There’s also a vast array of excellent ales and ciders to wash it down with! It’s so good that we’ve been back twice within a week!
So there you have it! 3 new vegan-friendly places to treat yourself to! Don’t say we never do anything for you!Back to All posts.
